Cindy Becker Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

A local resident of Sausalito, California has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by President Barack Obama, Presidential Service Awards Program. It was four years ago this week that the Tornado struck Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2011. It’s fitting today to be celebrating the work of one responder who helped with the Recovery Alabama program.

Cindy Becker heard about the tornado in the news and about the digital disaster response work being done by Humanity Road. On May 5, 2011 she decided to become a digital volunteer to assist with the tornado recovery effort. “Cindy is passionate about Humanity Road’s work and was a great help to me when I first began volunteering. During Hurricane Sandy, she put in many long hours monitoring and researching information for both people and animals, and she was an indispensable part of the team.” – said Aline Carr, Volunteer Management Coordinator for Humanity Road.

“Today we celebrate Ms. Becker’s work and her lifetime of supporting animals and humans impacted by disaster” Says Chris Roberts with Alabama University. We are a digital response organization and our volunteer team is dispersed around the world so to digitally present this award today is Mr. Chris Roberts with Alabama University.
