Hurricane Matthew attained hurricane status on September 29, 2016 and became a Category 5 hurricane on September 30 in the Caribbean Sea. On October 1, it weakened to a Category 4. Source Southern Haiti has effectively been cut off after the bridge linking it to the capital, Port-au-Prince, collapsed.
